SUMMER 2009

Art Galleries

David W. Streets – Beverly Hills
9407-9411 S. Santa Monica Blvd.
(310) 275-3464

www.davidstreetsbeverlyhills.com
Sophisticated? Yes. Stuffy? Absolutely not! David Streets’ new gallery on S. Santa Monica Boulevard is the antithesis of the art gallery stereotype. Whether you’re a first-time buyer or avid collector . . . interested in the Modern Masters, contemporary fine art or sculptural pieces, David Streets takes a low-key approach with clientele. However, be forewarned. His passion for art is contagious – and soon you’ll find that the gallery pieces speak to you the way they speak to him.

Dining/Nightlife

Hakobe
14 N. La Cienega Blvd.
(310) 652-0007

What do modeling and Japanese cuisine have in common? Quite a bit if you’re dining at Hakobe restaurant on La Cienega Boulevard. Former model, Asako, owns this new Japanese retreat and has created an environment that uniquely combines Asian-inspired serenity (bamboo screens, Japanese lanterns) with raw, woodsy accents. Enjoy starters like Blue Crab and Jalapeno Cream Cheese Fried Wontons and stick-to-your-ribs main courses including Kobe Steak with Wasabi Mashed Potatoes.

Jersey Mike’s Subs
279 S. Beverly Drive
(310) 288-0288

www.jerseymikes.com
The debate has been long and fraught with tension, and yet the age-old question remains. Where can you find THE best subs (or, depending on where you live, grinders or hoagies)? If Jersey Mike’s Subs is not the winner, it is, at the very least, a top contender. Originating at the Jersey Shore in 1956, Jersey Mike’s Subs have long been known for their authenticity and are still made with only top-quality meats and cheeses and the freshest bread (baked daily on the premises). Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that the company has a longstanding commitment to local community programs and charitable endeavors.

Villa Blanca
9601 Brighton Way
(310) 859-7600

www.villablancarestaurant.com
True to its name, Villa Blanca opens its doors and welcomes guests into a crisp, fresh white interior, punctuated by rustic accents. The menu is primarily Mediterranean in nature with selections like Seafood Paella with Mediterranean Scampi, Moroccan Spiced Braised Chicken with Golden Raisin Couscous and Shrimp and Chorizo Potato Pizza, prepared under the direction of former Koi executive chef, Francis Dimitrius.
